The SEZ area of Gioia Tauro is located close to the port and it consists of areas falling within the industrial agglomerations managed by CORAP. The perimeter of the SEZ covers about 607 hectares and it includes three portions of territory falling within the municipalities of Gioia Tauro, Rosarno and San Ferdinando. The first consists of a coastal strip about 1,500 meters wide, located behind the port, falling within the territory of the municipalities of Gioia Tauro and San Ferdinando; the second is a strip of hinterland with a slight inward slope starting from a natural terrace overlooking the lower part in front of it by 25-30 meters, located in the territory of the municipalities of Gioia Tauro and San Ferdinando; the third is located in the territory of the municipality of Rosarno.

35 companies are located in the SEZ area, half of the companies surveyed by CORAP in the entire industrial agglomeration. The companies mainly belong to the manufacturing sectors (food and beverage industry, metalworking, manufacturing of plastic products), transport and logistics, wholesale and retail trade, electricity supply and waste treatment/recovery, financial and real estate services.

The SEZ Calabria strategic plan, chap. 9 “Facilitations and incentives”, (P.M.D. 12/2018 art. 6, l. g, c. 1) identifies the following main facilities to support the SEZ:

  • Tax credit (Law 208/2015)
  • Development contracts (MISE Agreement, 2-017, D.G.R. 93/2018)
  • Law 181/89 (D.G.R. 423/2016, D.G.R. 95/2018)
  • Craft Fund (D.G.R. 580/2017)

Furthermore, the law n. 178/2020 (Budget Law 2021), art. 1, c. 173-176, introduced a further facility for businesses that set up new economic initiatives in SEZ areas, regarding the reduction by 50% in income taxes for activities carried out in the SEZ.

Link Road infrastructures to motorways and road networks:
- link road between the A2 motorway and the customs gate, and the junctions of the three industrial areas of the agglomeration.

Inland railway infrastructure:
- Port-Rosarno railway connection
- San Ferdinando checkpoint station
- Existing railway infrastructures to support the second area of ​​the industrial agglomeration.

Inland road infrastructure:
- Existing main and secondary road network inside the industrial agglomeration.
- In all areas there are parking areas for light and heavy vehicles

Water supply infrastructure (industrial water):
- Water supply and distribution network, both civil and industrial, serving the agglomeration.

Sewer infrastructure:
- Existing civil and industrial sewerage system, inside the agglomeration.

Telematic/telephone/fiber infrastructures:
- Existing telephone and data network, internal to the industrial agglomeration.

Energy infrastructure (gas):
- Existing methane network

Energy infrastructure (electricity):
- Existing MV and LV electricity grid.

Waste collection / disposal infrastructure:
- Technological Pole of Gioia Tauro (RC). WTE platform waste-to-energy plant of the Calabria Region.

Access gates:
- Road: A2 motorway - Mediterranean motorway: to the north Rosarno toll booth at 3 km, to the south Gioia Tauro toll booth at 6 km. SS 18 Napoli - Reggio Calabria at 0.1 km;
- Railway: Battipaglia - Reggio Calabria railway line. Rosarno stations at 4 km and Gioia Tauro at 6 km;
- Port: Port of Gioia Tauro accessible from the connecting road between the A2 motorway and the customs gate.

 

Connotative Infrastructures

Waste treatment infrastructures:
- Consortium sewage treatment plant.

Distinct areas for admitted activities (industrial, commercial, craft, logistics, services, ...) with indications and identification of the lots:
- Within the areas of the industrial agglomeration, productive activities may be established as provided by the NTA - Technical Implementation Standards of the current consortium PRT, of the industrial agglomeration of Gioia Tauro-Rosarno-San Ferdinando (Approved by Det. 01_22.01.2014, prot. N ° 103 Reg. Gen. of 24.01.2014 Provincia Reggio Cal.).

Environmentally protective restrictions: The first and second areas of the Industrial Agglomerate are subject to environmentally protective restrictions, pursuant to law no. 1497/1939, imposed by Ministerial Decree 11/10/1967 "Panoramic Area of ​​the Tyrrhenian Coast — Gioia Tauro" and D.M. 12/12/1967 "Tyrrhenian-Rosarno-San Ferdinando Coastal Panoramic Area", adopted before the construction of industrial and port infrastructures. For these areas it is necessary to proceed with the request for an opinion / preventive environmental clearance to the competent authorities, pursuant to Legislative Decree n. 152/2006 and Presidential Decree no. 31/2017 and subsequent amendments

Environmental restriction D.L. 22.01.04 n. 42 art. 142 paragraph "a" - band of 300 m. from the shoreline.

Environmental restriction D.L. 22.01.04 n. 42 art. 142 paragraph "c" - band of 150 m. from the embankment line.

In the SEZ area no. 2 there is a limited area with an archaeological restriction.

Hydrogeological constraint R.D. 3267/1923: In the SEZ area no. 2 there are areas subject to the hydrogeological constraint R.D. 3267/1923.

Basin Plan for Hydrogeological Assets: The isolated area falling within the SEZ area no. 3 is crossed by a warning zone.

Flood Risk Areas Management Plan: Compared to the PGRA, coordinated at the hydrographic district level, there is a small part of the isolated area falling within the SEZ area no. 3, affected by floods, identified according to the national specifications.
