The SEZ area extends for about 351 hectares, and it is bordered to the north by the Lamezia Terme international airport, to the west by the water line of the Tyrrhenian Sea, to the east by state road 18 and to the south by the Amato river. According to CORAP data, 54 companies are located in the SEZ perimeter, about half of those located in the entire industrial agglomeration, operating mainly in the manufacturing sectors (agro-industry, products / systems for construction, engineering, electronics), transport and logistics.

The Mediterranean Terina Foundation is located in the area, founded in 2007 from the transformation of the Advanced Services Center for Research, Training and Agri-food Development of Calabria SpA, with the aim of promoting, supporting and implementing industrial research and development of innovation, higher education and dissemination of scientific culture with particular reference to the agricultural, agri-food, agro-industrial and environmental sectors.

The SEZ Calabria strategic plan, chap. 9 “Facilitations and incentives”, (P.M.D. 12/2018 art. 6, l. g, c. 1) identifies the following main facilities to support the SEZ:

Law 181/89 (D.G.R. 423/2016, D.G.R. 95/2018)
Craft Fund (D.G.R. 580/2017)

Furthermore, the law n. 178/2020 (Budget Law 2021), art. 1, c. 173-176, introduced a further facility for businesses that set up new economic initiatives in SEZ areas, regarding the reduction by 50% in income taxes for activities carried out in the SEZ.

Environmentally protective restrictions: The entire SEZ development area is subject to the D.M. 180006 "Tyrrhenian Coastal Area Lamezia Terme (formerly Sant’Eufemia Lamezia)", Ministerial Decree 07/07/1967, Official Gazette n. 185 of 25.07.1967.
The SEZ A area, on the south side, is affected by the "Watercourses" constraint (Ref. Art. 142 of Legislative Decree no. 42/2004).

Restrictions in Hydrogeological Structure Plan: The south side of the SEZ area is surrounded by an R4 risk area of the PAI.

Flood Risk Areas Management Plan: Compared to the PGRA, coordinated at the hydrographic district level, in all SEZ areas there are ones affected by floods, identified according to the national specifications, located in correspondence with the main collector.
