The Port has a stretch of water of about 1,105,300 sq.m, bordered by 1,900 m of operational quays, with depths varying between 8 and 10 m, behind which about 50,000 sq.m of yards are available. It has an entrance (200 m) well protected from all winds and it is used for commercial and industrial traffic. Port piloting, towing and mooring services are insured; there is a shipyard for pleasure craft. There are platforms offshore for the production of hydrocarbons, connected to each other and to the coast by submarine pipelines. 35% of the traffic in the port is due to international navigation and 65% to coastal navigation. Typically, the freights consist of 87% of bulk, 11% of various components and 2% of dangerous ones.
Land access to the port takes place both from the S.S. 106 Ionian and from the S.S. 107 Silana-Crotonese. The port is not far from the Ionian railway line (about 1 km from Crotone station). Inside there are piloting, mooring, towing and bunkering services.
The port area is defined by the "state-owned maritime areas and port works included within the limits identified to the north by the mouth of the Esaro river and to the south by the Sanità pier included" (Ministerial Decree 29 December 2006).
The area size included in the perimeter of the SEZ area corresponds to about 26 ha.
